My Most Wanted Jhonas Enroth Cards

When I was younger, I loved the game Need For Speed: Most Wanted. I logged many hours on my Playstation 2 playing that game.

Aside from the cool police chases and custom cars, there was something about hunting down rival drivers and collecting their cars that I really enjoyed.

​Pink slips aside and racing aside, card collecting can feel like that sometimes. The feeling of tackling another collecting milestone or finding that one card you’ve been after for many years is a feeling like no other. If you’ve been a collector for a certain length of time, you know this feeling all too well. It’s what makes hobbies like these really fun.After knocking a few tough cards off the want list these past few years, including one of my Most Wanted cards recently – which you can read all about that in my last article 

HERE, I felt compelled to review my want list once again and write up a quick list of a few cards I would like to add to the collection, if I’m lucky enough. 

While attaining all of these cards would be great, the purpose of card collecting isn’t always to ‘catch em’ all’, it’s to enjoy yourself along the way and lists like these map out the journey ahead, while also allow me to reflecting on cards that were once on your wantlist many years ago and have since been scratched off. Here are the Top 5 (ish) Most Wanted Jhonas Enroth cards in no particular order, along with a few others. While there are still many other cards out there that may be more obscure or have a lower print run, the inability to add these cards seems to mount every passing year it seems. Partly because of their age, but also due in part to their backstories.​I tried to limit this small shortlist below to non-1/1 cards. While I enjoy adding 1/1’s as much as any player collector whenever possible, there’s always something about finding a card that has multiple copies out there but for some reason or another you were never able to find any of them for years. Plus, I wanted to have some fun with this list. Let’s be honest, a lot of 1/1’s could fill out most of our ‘Most Wanted’ lists.

This card has eluded me since day one. I started collecting Enroth’s cards back in 2010, and I haven’t seen this card before. It’s the Artifacts Rookie Black (Autographed) parallel /5. I have seen partial lists that state some of the players in this set were autographed while other players were not, so who really knows without seeing a picture. I have heard some others players in the set the Black /5 parallel was never made, so this is a strange one. If anyone has any information, please let me know! I have added a picture of the Ville Leino Black /5 auto above to show what the Enroth card would look like.

2010-11 Between The Pipes Numbers Silver #M-27 Jhonas Enroth /3

I really enjoyed 2010-11 ITG Between The Pipes.

Aside from the designs being amazing, anytime you can enjoy a all-goalie product is something special. I miss the old ITG days, but they remain such a fun time in the hobby for me. The nostalgia is real.

This Game-Used Number Silver /3 would be completing a 9-card rainbow for me. I have only seen 1 for sale over the years, but acquiring one would be really cool. Each card features a nice piece of Enroth’s AHL Portland Pirates jersey from the 2008-09 season, which was his first professional season in North America after coming over from Sweden.

2010-11 Score French Backs #95 Jhonas Enroth

I wrote an article a few years ago (you can check that out here: 

The Parallel That Must-Not-Be-Named) about these 2010-11 Score French Back parallels, and it still remains one of the toughest parallels to track down for any player collector. The print run is unknown, but it is rumoured to be about 5 or less. 

​The only difference from the base cards is the small french text “N’oubliez pas de collectionner les cartes Score hockey!” on the back of the card, which translates in English to “Don’t forget to collect Score hockey cards!”. If you’re reading this, you may not have even know these parallels existed, and that’s okay. I was meant to blend in with the base versions and are impossible to tell from the front. Even from the backs, the small french line of text can be easily missed. C’est la vie.

Not as tough to find like the 2010-11 Score parallels can be, but this one is still tough. I don’t know if the 2012-13 year was printed in smaller quantity or what, but it seems like the 2012-13 Score Black Ice parallels are on a lot of collectors want lists. I suspect it’s because while there is a colour change from the base, it can be easily missed due to the colour change not being replicated over the entire border like it was on other Black Ice parallels in other iterations of the Score product.

Due to these being more or less the same card from the same set, I wanted to combine these as a 2-card space on this most wanted list. Similar to the Artifacts Black /5 card, these Premier Signings Triple Autographed cards numbered /15 I have never seen before. While I’ve seen (and own) the Gold paralleled versions /5 (pictured here in this article), however, the cards with the bigger print run still elude my collection. Weird.

​The checklist for this product is another odd thing, as there were conflicting / incomplete checklists for the Premier Signings multi-player cards. Some don’t even include these cards with Enroth, while others do. When looking at other cards in the set, some checklists stated some cards only include the base version /15, with no gold parallel. Others cards may only have a Gold parallel /5 with no base version /15, and some had both parallels included. For those who are confused, you aren’t the only one. 

I’ve spoken to a set collector about this particular set before, and he couldn’t even provide a complete checklist or confirm or deny the existence of all of the /15 versions, so who really knows. In fact, when I first showed him these cards /5 with Enroth and the other goalies on these cards, he said it was the first time he had seen or heard of these before and up to that point hadn’t heard of these cards being in this set before in all his years collecting the 2009-10 Premier Signings set. These cards are odd ones for sure, but alas, they remain on the want list.A few of these cards I’ve never seen a copy of, so it would make any of these additions that much cooler. So if you happen to own or see any of these cards, please let me know! I’ve also included some more notable cards I’ve seen that I’d like to acquire too.I’ll continue on here with a few 1/1’s I’d like to acquire that I has seen out in the wild before. The Jumbo Jersey is one of saw listed back in the day, but I wasn’t able to go after it in those days.  

​The next cards is actually a BuyBack card from 2019-20 upper deck series 2. That year, Upper Deck was celebrating their 30th anniversary, as so they bought back 30 years of Flagship S1/S2 base sets and distributed them randomly in hobby boxes. The first 15 or so years was released in Series 1, with the latter half released in Series 2. I thought this was a clever way of creating a nice hit with collectors and a subtle nod to the past! You’ve notice the 1/1 stamp alongside the 30th Annuversary Upper Deck logo. Enroth had 4 of these included in the product:

There are also some cool KHL cards overseas that I would love to acquire, but due to the shipping bans in certain parts of the world… those cards are unlikely to find a home here at this time. Not to mentioned they are all locked in some serious Dinamo Minsk / KHL collections over there. 

Moving on with some more 1/1’s…

 2013-14 National Treasures was an excellent way to send off for Panini during it’s licensed time in the hobby. To celebrate their final officially licensed NHL product release (read: deplete inventory) they created some hot boxes that included complete runs of printing plates from previous products. I’m not sure if there is a complete checklist for these, as I’ve came across these printing plate sets years after the fact, never knowing they existed previously, but these Panini printing plates (and others, if they’re out there) that I would really like to own.

Another set of cards I would really like to acquire are two jersey-numbered print run cards from Enroth’s rookie card year in 2009-10. Due to Enroth’s # 1 jersey number at the time, only 1 of each of the following cards were made. I haven’t seen or heard of there whereabouts to this day, so I have no idea if they exist but they are the following two 1/1’s:

• 2009-10 The Cup Gold Rainbow Rookie Patch Autograph #141 Jhonas Enroth 1/1

All of these cards (and many more) are ones that I would like to scratch off my list. Will it happen? Who knows, but I’m going to have fun playing the waiting game until then.
