what my card storage space looks like, I wanted to take the time to revisit this topic since I have recetly updated my own setup for my main collection.
The biggest change I made within the last few months was putting the majority of my main collection into either toploaders, snap cases, one touch magnet holders, and safely into team bags to protect them as much as possible.

You can also see some binders in the background!The reasoning behind this change, aside from the yearly “motivational” prodding I received from my collector friends about still being an old school “binder guy” (proudly) after all these years, I did start to wonder, If I was to live into my 90’s or beyond, will this current collection setup be best for these cards?!
My anser to this question was a prolonged maybe, but I figured it was worth it to play it safe and switch things up.
Although we continually see the evidence of card survival when looking at over a 100-year-old vintage cards that have stood the test of time, my big question was how will modern cardboard stand up to the test of time?
In the coming decades, I have wondered how today’s cards will look in the long run, especially the thicker memorabilia card builds with many layers of cardboard, different thicknesses and types of paper stock, glues, autograph stickers, along with different types of physical memorabilia pieces embedded inside the cards themselves – All card attributes that makeup a large chunk of the cards in today’s products, and therefore the majority of our collections as time goes on.
Modern collectors need modern solutions, and so I knew a change was needed.
One of the boxes holds my graded / slabbed cards and some key cards from various goalie collections.
The giant 4-row mega box houses my Enroth card collection from the 2006-07 season all the way up to the 2016-17 season.
The other smaller box holds the ongoing collection that I will be adding to. This box is holding cards from the 2017-18 season until present day.
The final box is dedicated to just 1/1’s cards. As of this post, I am just 1 card shy of having 70 1/1 cards in the Enroth collection. So close!Aside from these new boxes, I haven’t said goodbye to binders just yet. They still hold the majority of my hockey cards and will continue to do so for some time. Although it was tough to make the switch, I think the long-term outlook will be very positive.
