What’s In A Letter? My First European Nameplate Card!

Ever since I returned to collecting hockey cards in 2005 (ish), letter cards have always fascinated me as a collector.

After navigating through the new normal of memorabilia cards, it was still very fresh for me at the time. One of the cards that I was very fond of at the time were nameplate cards.

While I could never afford true game-used letter cards at the time, Upper Deck’s Letter Marks set was my first introduction into letter cards. From that point forward,

I was hooked.

One of my favourite cards in my collection is this 2006-07 SP Game Used Letter Marks card of Dwayne Roloson, numbered to just 50 copies. This set was released on March 6th, 2007.

I remember thinking how amazing it was that collectors could collect a full nameplate of a given player. So cool! While the game-worn By The Letter card counterparts were unaffordable to me at the time, they were the epitome of card coolness at the time for me.

Fast-forward almost 20 years later, and my Enroth collection is full of game-used nameplate cards from various parts of his career. They are some of my favourite cards in my entire collection.

Within this collection of letter memorabilia cards, the last thing I was missing was a European letter card. In 2023, there was 6 Dinamo Minsk letter cards released in the KHL Platinum Collection, but any of those cards have a slim chance to be added to my collection at this point. However, in 2026, a new opportunity was brought to light with the released of new SHL cards after 10+ years.As I was anticipating the release of SportZoo’s Series 1 Exclusive Collection (A Premium 1-card boxed product), I noticed that Enroth had 6 Örebro game-used letter cards to chase within the product. Any of those new letter cards were now placed near the top of my want list.

I found some fun pre-packout images on SportZoo’s Instagram page earlier this year as they were showcasing the upcoming Unique Mark Letter cards at the time. You can see the full Enroth nameplate cards included in the post.

Notice the lack of serial numbered stamps on the cards? These cards were likely stamped and packed into boxes shortly after these photos were taken. Very cool! I’ve always liked seeing those behind the scenes photos from a card manufacturer.

Back in June, I noticed a Swedish user on Tradera selling the Letter “O”, which was the first copy of the letter cards I had seen surface publicly. While I was not able to reach a deal with the seller, the listing expired and the card was removed, which was disappointing, but these things happen.

In August, the seller contacted me directly online saying he still had the card, asking if I was still interested. I immediately reached back out and we got a deal done that very day.

Once I returned from vacation, this card was safely in my mail box. My first European letter card was finally home!

This game-used Enroth letter memorabilia piece came from a SHL preseason jersey used on September 2nd, 2025 (Exactly 1 year to the day!) when Örebro HK played Leksands IF. This jersey was used for Enroth’s memorabilia cards within the 2025-26 SportZoo SHL products this year.
