The nights will soon be cooler and the sun will set earlier, as the summer slowly comes to an end. I love summer: great weather, sunshine, outdoor gatherings with friends, cold drinks. While I hate to see another summer go, this Fall will bring a new chapter of my life that I’m super excited about: Home ownership!
We will be getting ourselfs situated in our new place later over the next few months, and I couldn’t be more excited. For those wondering, yes, a new office will have to be dreamt up, and I’m sure a blog post about my new card space will follow once I get everything organized and displayed.
On the card front, the mail just keeps on coming in after finding a few nice cards lately. This week’s mail day brought in another card for the autograph collection.
For those who don’t know, within this specific PC, I collect signed base and insert cards for the Enroth card collection. It keeps the collection moving and it’s always a little exciting to cross another base/insert card off the list, especially if I haven’t seen that particular version “in the wild” before. For most collectors out there, this won’t be the most exciting mail day in the world, but that’s okay. Collect what you like, as the saying goes!
This most recent addition for the collection is a nice 2011-12 Score Glossy parallel from Panini, signed in blue ink. I’ve always enjoyed the design of this card and the cool horizontal photo of Enroth sliding across the crease to make a save.
(Fun Fact: The photo on this card is from a game vs Carolina on April 3rd, 2011. The Sabres earned a hard fought 2-1 Overtime win that night).
I’ve had an autographed Base card from this Score set for a few years now, so to add a Glossy parallel is a nice find. I was lucky that the eBay seller who had this card was able to confirm that it was the Glossy parallel, as they can be tough to spot at first glance when looking at the front of the card, even with the additional sheen on the front surface of this parallel. Luckily, the back of the card states “Glossy” in the upper corner to confirm the difference.
Due to the age of the card and the nature of a card like this, finding random autographed cards or other signed variations that I don’t have can be more challenging than you’d first think. The Enroth Base / Insert card autograph side project is now up to 38 cards at this point, which is really cool.
Regardless, any card I didn’t have before today is a welcome addition to the PC. This brings my total Enroth card collection count to 788 cards in total. Maybe I can crack the 800-card milestone before the year is up? Time will tell!
